This dish is the definition of an effortless meze. Sweet, caramelized figs paired with creamy baked feta make the perfect centerpiece for a gathering. It’s quick, elegant, and needs just a handful of ingredients-ideal for sharing with friends over a glass of Gratsi wine and warm, crusty bread.
Ingredients:
- 200 g feta cheese (about 7 oz)
- 9 fresh figs, cut into 3 equal parts
- 80g pistachios, roughly chopped (about ½ cup)
- Extra virgin olive oil (as your heart desires)
- Honey (as your heart desires)
- A sprinkle of dried oregano
Equipment:
Baking dish: 29 × 17 cm (11 × 6.5 in)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) on the grill setting.
- Place the feta block in the center of the baking dish.
- Arrange the sliced figs around the cheese and scatter the chopped pistachios over the top.
- Drizzle with olive oil and honey.
- Sprinkle dried oregano.
- Bake for about 35 minutes, until the figs are soft and caramelized, the pistachios lightly toasted, and the feta golden around the edges.
- Serve warm, straight from the dish, with plenty of baked bread for dipping
