April 1 - “President Costin and Chancellor Falwell April 1 - “President Costin and Chancellor Falwell, esteemed faculty, and students of Liberty University. Good morning and thank you for having me at Convocation.
On the beginning of Passover and on the cusp of Easter, I stand before you not only as an Iranian, but as a witness—on behalf of millions of my compatriots whose voices have been silenced, whose names you may never hear, but whose courage is reshaping the future of my country.
I come to you as the voice of a nation that has been silenced.
A nation whose people cannot stand here themselves.
A nation that, for 33 days, has been cut off from the world—without internet, without connection,
without a voice.
Let me begin there….”

April 1 - In the latest episode of Critical Condit April 1 - In the latest episode of Critical Conditions, Claire Berlinski and Dan Perry spoke with Nazenin Ansari, managing editor of the UK-based Kayhan London and Kayhan Life. What emerged was not just an analysis of events inside Iran, but a window into a particular — and influential — way of seeing them.
Ansari’s view is, in many respects, representative of opposition-minded Iranians outside the country: a mix of deep moral clarity, personal anguish, and striking optimism about the regime’s fragility. That optimism, however, rests on a very specific theory of how regimes collapse.
Ansari framed Iran as a country living in two parallel realities. On one level, the Islamic Republic continues to project strength and purpose. On another, she described a society seething with anger, trauma, and expectation. “Their worst fear,” she said of ordinary Iranians, “is for the regime to stay, for the war to stop.”

WASHINGTON, April 1 (Reuters) – The United States will be “out of Iran pretty quickly” and could return for “spot hits” if needed, President Donald Trump told Reuters on Wednesday, hours before he was scheduled to make a primetime address to the nation about the war.

With the conflict in its fifth week and Trump under pressure for an off-ramp amid rising gasoline prices, the president scheduled a 9 p.m. EDT (0100 GMT) speech to discuss the way forward. His address will end a day that began with Trump making a historic visit to the Supreme Court.

Trump, in a phone interview with Reuters, said one element of his speech would be to express his disgust with NATO for what he considers the alliance’s lack of support for U.S. objectives in Iran.

A transatlantic rift in Trump’s second term deepened after European allies rebuffed his request to help maintain safe passage for oil traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

He said he was “absolutely” considering withdrawing the United States from NATO, a treaty organization ratified by the U.S. Senate in 1949. Trump has flirted with a withdrawal in the past and has successfully pressured NATO members to increase their defense spending.

“They haven’t been friends when we needed them,” Trump said. “We’ve never asked them for much … it’s a one-way street.”

Trump and his top officials have offered a variety of timelines for ending the war. He said on Tuesday that the U.S. could end its military campaign against Iran within ‌two to three weeks.

In the Reuters interview, he declined to provide a timeline.

“I can’t tell you exactly … we’re going to be out pretty quickly,” he said, adding that once a U.S. exit is achieved, “we’ll come back to do spot hits” on Iranian targets as needed.

PARIS, April 1 (Reuters) – France suspects a pro-Iranian group known as HAYI to be behind a foiled attack on Bank of America’s Paris offices, its anti-terrorism prosecutor said on Wednesday, although it stressed the link has not yet been formally established.

HAYI, which stands for Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamiyya, or Movement of the Companions of the Right Hand of Islam, had posted a propaganda video on social media on March 23 targeting Jewish interests and communities in France and Europe, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement to Reuters.

It added the video specifically named Bank of America’s BAC.N Paris headquarters in the French capital’s 8th district.

“In light of the aforementioned video targeting this U.S. bank and the modus operandi observed in similar operations across several European countries, this attack… appears to be linked to the HAYI group, although this has not yet been formally established at this stage of the proceedings,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The Iranian embassy in France did not immediately respond to a request for comment and declined over the weekend to comment on French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez’s remarks pointing to Iran’s possible involvement.

The device used in the foiled March 28 attack, a five-litre petrol can taped to a large pyrotechnic charge, was found by forensic experts to contain a 650-gram active-material cylinder with a fuse, the prosecutor’s office said. Paris police found it was the most powerful pyrotechnic device of its kind identified in France to date, it added.

Four suspects, three minors and one adult, were formally placed under investigation, the prosecutor’s office said. A fifth person was released for lack of sufficient evidence.

Investigators established through CCTV footage, phone data and police interviews that the adult had recruited the three teenagers between the nights of March 26 and 27, paying them between 500 and 1,000 euros ($580-$1,160) to plant the device, light it and film the scene, the prosecutor’s office said.

All four suspects denied terrorist intent, though the minors acknowledged knowing the target was not a residential building, it said.
March 31 (Reuters) – FIFA president Gianni Infanti March 31 (Reuters) – FIFA president Gianni Infantino threw his support behind Iran‘s World Cup preparations on Tuesday, attending their 5-0 friendly win over Costa Rica in Turkey even as their tournament participation is in limbo due to Middle East tensions.

Infantino’s surprise appearance came as Iran continues pushing to relocate the team’s World Cup matches from the U.S. to Mexico, citing the American military involvement alongside Israel in strikes that sparked the current regional war.

Iran‘s federation said earlier this month they were in discussions with FIFA about the venue switch, while Iran‘s Sports Ministry has banned national and club sports teams from travelling to countries it considers hostile until further notice.

FIFA, however, has maintained it is looking forward to all participating teams “competing as per the match schedule” announced in December.

“I am very pleased that the Iran national team is currently holding its training camp… We have only one plan for this team. Iran has qualified for the World Cup and will play in the tournament,” Infantino was quoted as saying by Iranian media at the match in Antalya.

“Personally, I will do whatever I can to make sure everything is in order.”

Iran, who dominated the Asian qualifying rounds to book their place at the tournament in March last year, are scheduled to play all three Group G matches on American soil — two in Los Angeles and one in Seattle — against Belgium, Egypt and New Zealand.

PARIS/ROME, March 31 (Reuters) – France and Italy have pushed back against some U.S.-Israeli military operations, sources said on Tuesday, as U.S. President Donald Trump criticised NATO allies in Europe as unhelpful in the month-long war in Iran, highlighting divisions.

The decisions came against a backdrop of tensions between Washington and key partners over the war. Earlier this month, Trump called longtime NATO ‌allies “cowards” over their lack of support. On Tuesday, he slammed countries that did not help in the U.S.-Israeli strikes.

Trump accused France of blocking aircraft carrying military supplies to Israel from flying over its territory, writing on Truth Social that France had been “VERY UNHELPFUL”.

The French presidency said it was surprised by the post and said its decision was consistent with France’s policy since the conflict began.

A Western diplomat and two sources familiar with the matter told Reuters earlier that the refusal, which happened at the weekend, was the first time France had done this since the start of the conflict on February 28.

The sources said Israel had wanted to use France’s airspace to transport U.S. weapons to be used in the war against Iran.

Israel’s defence ministry accused France of actively obstructing the transfer of munitions to Israel, according to a statement.

It said the French ban was imposed despite prior coordination and assurances that the munitions were intended solely for use against Iran, adding that the effort was critical to European security.
