A refreshing summer sipper. When life hands you a bounty of kumquats and the sun won’t quit, this vibrant, citrusy infusion is your go-to hydration hero. It’s simple, cooling, and just the right touch of sweet-tart to keep your spirits lifted.
Ingredients:
– 10–12 fresh kumquats, sliced thin (seeds removed if desired)
– A small handful of fresh mint leaves (about 10–15 leaves)
– 1–2 tablespoons of honey or agave syrup (optional, for a hint of sweetness)
– 1 pitcher of cold filtered water (about 6–8 cups)
– Ice cubes, for serving
Instructions:
1. Prep the kumquats
– Rinse them well, then slice thinly into rounds or halves. Remove seeds if you prefer a smoother sip.
2. Bruise the mint
– Gently clap the mint leaves between your palms or lightly crush them with a spoon to release their oils.
3. Assemble the pitcher
– In a large pitcher, combine the sliced kumquats and mint leaves.
– If using sweetener, stir it in now.
– Pour in the cold water and stir gently.
4. Chill & infuse
– Let the mixture sit in the fridge for at least 1 hour (or up to 4) to allow the flavors to meld.
5. Serve
– Pour over ice and garnish with a few extra mint leaves or a kumquat slice for flair.
Tips & Variations:
– Add a splash of sparkling water just before serving for a fizzy twist.
– Toss in a few slices of cucumber or ginger for extra depth.
– Freeze kumquat slices into ice cubes for a pretty, slow-release flavor boost.
