Iranian Women’s National Taekwondo Team Wins the 2022 Asian Championships

Iranian women’s national taekwondo team won first place at the 2022 Asian Taekwondo Championships, taking home three gold, two silver, and one bronze model, and scoring a historic achievement in women’s sports.

Nahid Kiani (bantamweight -53 kg), Zahra Pouresmaeil (middleweight -73 kg), and Akram Khodabandeh (heavyweight +73 kg) were winners of gold medals in their respective weight divisions.

Mobina Nematzadeh (flyweight -49 kg) and Nastaran Valizadeh (lightweight -62 kg) were the winners of silver medals in their weight class.

Zahra Sheidaei (featherweight -57 kg) won a bronze medal.

The Iranian women’s national taekwondo team won first place with 500 points.

Second, third, fourth, and fifth places went to China (379 points), South Korea (347 points), Jordan (127 points), and Kazakhstan (121 points).

Speaking to the Iranian media, Mino Maddah, the head coach of the Iranian women’s national taekwondo team, said: “We recognize that the achievement resulted from teamwork. The Asian games have become more competitive, with greater quality matches and skills.”

The Iranian men’s national taekwondo team won three silver and one bronze medal in the competitions.

Mehdi Haj Mousaei (flyweight -58 kg), Mirhashem Hosseini (lightweight -74 kg), and Alireza Nadalian (heavyweight +87 kg) won silver medals in their respective weight divisions.

Danial Bozorgi won a bronze in the featherweight -68 kg class.

Iran secured third place in the overall medal table after South Korea (five golds, one silver, and four bronzes) and Uzbekistan (four golds, one silver, and one bronze).

The 25th Asian Taekwondo Championships were held between June 24 and 27 in Chuncheon, the capital of the eastern province of Gangwon in South Korea.

Some 368 male and female athletes from 34 countries participated in the competitions.
