MOSCOW, April 4 (Reuters) – Russia said on Frida

MOSCOW, April 4 (Reuters) – Russia said on Friday that the question of Iran’s nuclear programme should be resolved politically and diplomatically, urging restraint on all sides.

Moscow has offered to mediate between the United States and Iran after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to bomb Iran unless it comes to an agreement with Washington over its nuclear programme.

“We believe that the problem of the Iranian nuclear dossier should be discussed and resolved only by political and diplomatic means. Exclusively,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

“And, of course, we believe that all parties should maintain absolute restraint here and focus specifically on diplomatic efforts when discussing all issues.

“You know that we are currently working on restoring our relations with the United States, but Iran is also our partner, our ally, with whom we have very developed and multifaceted relations,” Peskov said.

His comments underscored the balance that Moscow is attempting to strike as tensions rise sharply over Iran’s nuclear activities.

Russia has deepened ties with Tehran since the start of the war in Ukraine and signed a strategic partnership agreement with the Islamic Republic in January.

But it is also moving quickly to restore relations with the Trump administration, a shift that has unnerved Ukraine and European countries who are nervous that Trump could make deep concessions to Moscow in order to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Trump says Iran is too close to building a nuclear bomb. Tehran denies any such intention and says it wants to develop nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, something that Russia says it has the right to do.

½ oz honey syrup (1:1 honey & hot water)
3 oz Back Home Beer’s Sumac Gose
Pinch of sumac & salt for the rim
Pomegranate seeds for garnish!
Rim your glass with sumac & salt, shake up the tequila, juices, and honey, pour it over ice, top with Sumac Gose, and add some Pom seeds to sip on something that tastes like a Persian sunset meets a Texas fiesta.”

April 5 – The Trump Administration has for the first time criticized Iran’s human rights record, calling the country “one of the world’s worst violators of human rights.”

US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce made the comment during a press briefing, following a question about a recent spate of arrests in Iran during the country’s new year celebrations.

The Islamic Republic is the world’s most prolific executioner of children, women and men, and has been accused of serious human rights violations and crimes against humanity by the United Nations independent fact finding mission on Iran.

Israel said it had killed Hassan Bdeir, a senior Hezbollah official during an air strike in Lebanon, following the breakdown of a ceasefire agreement between the countries.

Israel’s military added that Bdeir had been a member of a Hezbollah unit and Iran’s Quds Force, and had assisted the Palestinian group Hamas in planning a “significant and imminent terror attack against Israeli civilians.”

Both Hezbollah and Hamas are funded and backed by Iran and make up part of the Iranian regime’s axis of resistance in the Middle East.

And police in the UK arrested two men believed to have links to Hezbollah, saying their investigation involved alleged activity both overseas and in Britain.

Hezbollah has been designated a terrorist organization by the UK since 2019 for its mandate to seize all Palestinian territories and Jerusalem from Israel, and for its support of terrorism in Iraq and the Palestinian territories.

Police said there was no immediate threat to the public following the arrests.

April 5 - Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic, agreed in recent days to engage in talks with the Trump administration, albeit indirectly. This was in response to a letter from U.S. President Donald Trump, which threatened military action if the theocracy failed to strike a deal over its controversial nuclear program.

However, despite Khamenei’s comment that Tehran favored indirect negotiations with Washington, US President Donald Trump appeared to suggest in a press briefing on Thursday that Tehran now preferred direct talks: “They wanted to use intermediaries; I do not think that is necessarily true anymore…I think they want to have direct talks,” Trump said.

Until now, Khamenei had steadfastly rejected the idea of dialogue, labeling it “unwise, unintelligent, and not honorable.” However, the rapidly deteriorating state of Iran’s economy and the regime’s waning influence in the Middle East appear to have forced him to reconsider. This about-face as “taking a sip from the cup of poison” echoed the infamous phrase from Khamenei’s predecessor, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who reluctantly accepted a ceasefire in the protracted war with Iraq during the 1980s.

This turnaround follows the release of a third video by the clerical regime showcasing its underground missile facility, referring to it as a “missile city.” It also comes after a major cyberattack on Sepah Bank, comprising several military-affiliated entities, that has been reluctant to disclose its financial information. The attack exposed the glaring wealth inequality in Iran, where a privileged elite revels in opulence while the vast majority struggle to to meet their basic needs because of rampant inflation and the Iranian currency losing its value.

A recent report by Iran’s statistical center indicates that nearly one-third of the population earns less than $2 a day. In October, the government unveiled plans to drastically increase its military budget by nearly 200% for the upcoming Iranian calendar year starting March 21.
