WASHINGTON, Dec 8 (Reuters) – The United States WASHINGTON, Dec 8 (Reuters) – The United States issued fresh human rights-related sanctions on Friday targeting individuals in multiple countries, according to a post on a the U.S. Department of Treasury website.

The new sanctions target Chinese, Iranian individuals and others under the Global Magnitsky Act program, which freezes the assets of those who U.S. officials believe are involved in human rights abuses and blocks Americans from doing business with them.

MOSCOW, Dec 7 (Reuters) – Iranian President Ebra MOSCOW, Dec 7 (Reuters) – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi accused the West on Thursday of supporting “genocide” by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza, at the start of talks in Moscow with President Vladimir Putin.

As part of a burst of meetings focused on the Middle East, Putin greeted Raisi in the Kremlin a day after visiting the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, where he discussed the wars in Gaza and Ukraine and efforts by Russia and OPEC to boost oil prices.

In televised opening remarks, neither leader referred to their countries’ growing military cooperation – a source of concern to the United States, which says Iran is supplying Russia with weapons to use against Ukraine.

Putin said it was very important to discuss the situation in the Middle East, especially in the Palestinian territories.

Raisi responded via a translator: “What is happening in Palestine and Gaza is of course genocide and a crime against humanity.” He said it was “even more sad” that this was supported by the United States and the West.

Iran backs the Palestinian militant group Hamas, the ruling authority in Gaza, in its war with Israel. Russia has relations with all the key players in the region including Hamas and Israel, which it angered by hosting a Hamas delegation in Moscow in October.

Analysts say the conflict has helped Russia by distracting world attention from the war in Ukraine and enabling Moscow to align itself with developing countries in solidarity with the Palestinians.

Putin has said the sight of suffering and bloodied children in Gaza makes “tears come to your eyes”, but Western governments say such comments are hypocritical when Putin’s forces have killed thousands of civilians in Ukraine.

Dec. 8 – A case alleging substantial corruption Dec. 8 – A case alleging substantial corruption and fraud carried out by several government departments in Iran has been filed with the Iranian court system.

The case allegedly involves lawmakers in the agriculture ministry, governors of the Central Bank of Iran and Iranian Customs Administration bosses, according to a report by Iran International.

The officials are alleged to be involved in the $3.5 billion corruption case.

A court in Tehran has ordered the U.S. government to pay almost $50 billion in damages for the assassination of former Quds force leader General Qasem Soleimani.

Soleimani was killed during a targeted air strike in Baghdad, following claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump that the general had been planning attacks on American diplomats and military personnel in the Middle East.

The judgment also found 42 individuals and legal entities guilty, including Trump and former U.S. secretary of state Mike Pompeo, and called for the U.S. to apologize for the killing.

And Oberlin College said it had placed Mohammad Jafar Mahallati on indefinite leave, following a months-long campaign by an American-Iranian organization calling for his resignation.

Mahallati was accused of covering up human rights abuses in Iran while working as the regime’s UN ambassador.
