COPENHAGEN, July 13 — A group of Iranian expatriat COPENHAGEN, July 13 — A group of Iranian expatriates gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in Copenhagen on Monday to honor the memory of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who died Saturday at age 71 following a brief and sudden illness. The gathering was organized by a group of Iranian Lion & Sun supporters based in Denmark. Attendees described Graham as one of the most consistent advocates for Iranian dissidents in the U.S. Senate, noting his willingness to publicly back opposition movements at moments when other Western officials were reluctant to do so. July 12 - Mourners gathered outside the U.S. Embas July 12 - Mourners gathered outside the U.S. Embassy in London on Sunday evening for a memorial vigil honoring the late U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, who died Saturday at age 71. The gathering, held at 9 p.m., included a candlelight vigil and floral tributes. The event was organized by Stage of Freedom, a coalition of pro-democracy activists spanning a range of political affiliations who use art and public performance to advocate for freedom in Iran. Organizers described Graham as one of the most steadfast allies the Iranian people had in Washington, saying his willingness to stand publicly with them, at a time when many other leaders declined to do so, will define his legacy among the diaspora. He was one of the most outstanding painters of the late 20th and early 21st centuries, and one of the world’s most celebrated artists. His global fame was linked to several factors: his move to California in the 1970s, where he became known for his portraits and poolside scenes; for his constant artistic experimentation with new technologies (from Polaroid cameras to the iPhone and iPad); and for his openness about homosexuality at a time when, in Britain, it was still being decriminalized. In 2025, the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris presented a major Hockney retrospective of some 400 works from between 1955 and 2025 — titled: “Do Remember They Can’t Cancel the Spring.” Sahar Dehghan, an Iranian choreographer, director, and dancer based in France, was invited to collaborate on the exhibition by creating a dance performance inspired by the artworks on display. Drawing on the exhibition’s title, she developed a unique choreography. “The moment I heard the word ‘spring,’ I immediately thought of Nowruz — the celebration that Iranians hold to welcome the arrival of spring. By Nazanine Nouri July 13 - Manoucher Yektai — the By Nazanine Nouri July 13 - Manoucher Yektai — the pioneering Iranian-born modern artist who died in 2019 and was a founding member of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism — is getting his first-ever U.S. solo museum show at the ICA Miami (through Nov. 22). Meanwhile, the internationally renowned Mennour gallery in Paris has announced the representation of the Estate of Yektai, in collaboration with Karma, a gallery in Manhattan’s East Village. A solo exhibition of the artist’s work is being planned for next year. The ICA Miami exhibition, “Manoucher Yektai: The Stranger and the Tree” — whose title is derived from a 2005 poem by the artist — showcases some 30 paintings belonging to four series of works that the artist produced between 1948 and 1963 in a range of styles. The exhibition is curated by Donna Honarpisheh, associate curator, and opens with blue, beige and brown paintings from 1948 and 1949 which evoke calligraphy and mystical symbols and have rarely been on public view. Then come a series of works which the artist is famous for: heavily impastoed canvases from the 1950s representing still lifes and table settings in thick and protruding layers of paint. SINGAPORE, July 13 (Reuters) – The number of vesse SINGAPORE, July 13 (Reuters) – The number of vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz fell to multi-week lows on Sunday, shipping data showed, as renewed strikes between the U.S. and Iran and attacks on ships in the Middle East heightened safety concerns. Six vessels transited the strait on Sunday, ship-tracking data from Kpler showed, the lowest number in five weeks. Tankers that exited the strait included the Very Large Crude Carrier Humanity, laden with 2 million barrels of Iranian oil and another tanker, Capetan Andreas, carrying about 500,000 barrels of Kuwaiti oil products, the data showed, while three empty tankers entered the [Persian] Gulf to load oil. Most of the tankers switched off their transponders when crossing the strait. There were no liquefied natural gas tankers that entered the strait over the weekend that were visible on ship-tracking data. One tanker controlled by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Co exited the strait between July 10 and July 12, Kpler data showed. The vessel is heading for Dahej port in India. U.S. forces completed another wave of strikes against Iran on Sunday, hitting dozens of targets at multiple locations with precision munitions, the Central Command said. U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the Strait of Hormuz is open to commercial traffic, although Iran declared earlier that it closed the strait after a vessel travelled on an unapproved route and was struck. Iran‘s ​Revolutionary Guards said on Monday that its navy stopped two ships in the Strait of Hormuz last night by shutting down their systems. It did not name the ships involved. July 12 - Michael Shayan, an Iranian-born, Harvard July 12 - Michael Shayan, an Iranian-born, Harvard-trained writer, performer, and illusionist, is capping a milestone year with his Broadway debut in “Dog Day Afternoon,” where he made history as the first openly queer Iranian-Jewish man to perform on Broadway, an achievement recently honored by a NYC Council member. The run comes as the latest peak in a career already marked by distinction: Shayan earned an Emmy nomination in 2023 for his writing on Max’s “The Book of Queer,” where he also served as consulting producer, and was named to that year’s Out100 list. His path to the stage started early, becoming the youngest performer in the Magic Castle’s history at just 13, and later found its most personal expression in his acclaimed solo play “Avaaz,” which toured nationally and dramatized his mother’s journey from Tehran to “Tehran-geles,” California, the same immigrant story that shaped his own upbringing in America.
