As the fourth round of talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic is set to take place this week, the Middle East, North Africa, and Europe witnessed conflicts fueled by two contrasting worldviews.
In a striking show of military capability, Houthi rebels, supported by the Islamic Republic, launched a hypersonic ballistic missile that evaded interception from two of the world’s most advanced missile defense systems: the U.S. Army’s Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) and the Arrow-3. This missile struck close to Israel’s Ben Gurion International Airport.
On the same day, British counter-terrorism police, along with MI5 and military personnel, intercepted a suspected terror plot targeting the Israeli embassy in London. Authorities arrested eight individuals in what the UK’s interior minister described as one of the largest operations of its kind in recent years, with seven of those arrested being Iranian nationals.
For nearly fifty years, Iran’s theocratic regime has waged an unyielding campaign against Israel and the United States across the Middle East, North Africa, Europe, and beyond. The chilling chants of “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” have evolved into a reality marked by bombings, hostage-takings, assassinations, proxy wars, and a barrage of missile and cyberattacks.
The regime’s founder, Khomeini, once referred to Israel and Zionism as a cancerous tumor, asserting that their existence posed a threat to the very roots of the Islamic Republic. He believed that if they were not eradicated, Western civilization would obstruct the theocratic state’s global mission for dominance in religious, social, psychological, and political realms.
Despite decades of negotiations, clandestine agreements, and strategic collaborations spanning eight U.S. administrations, lasting peace has remained elusive. Will the ninth U.S. administration, finally be able to put an end to the Islamic Republic’s ideological zeal and revolutionary militancy?
