Nov. 30 – British lawmakers said they would do ‘everything they could’ to ensure the safe return of Israeli hostages captured by Hamas following the Palestinian militia group’s attack against Israel on Oct. 7 last year.
The UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa Hamish Falconer made the comment in Parliament this week, and confirmed that four hostages with strong UK links were still being held by Hamas.
The mother of one of the hostages, 28 year-old Emily Damari, who was shot and taken from an Israeli kibbutz, said her daughter had been forgotten, at a memorial event marking the anniversary of the attack.
Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said the government was considering moving the country’s capital from Tehran to a location near the Persian Gulf.
The proposal is seen as a strategic move to place the country’s hub nearer to key oil and natural gas reserves, and to ease pressure on Tehran which suffers from critical levels of air pollution and ongoing water shortages.
The proposal has been approved by Iran’s parliament, however no new location has been identified and the country’s ongoing economic crisis is likely to stall such plans for the foreseeable future.
And former British army soldier Daniel Khalife has been found guilty of spying for Iran, following his trial in London.
Khalife, who is British-Iranian, was accused of accessing a large volume of restricted material and building a network of Iranian contacts including a man connected to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, while serving in the army.
The 23-year-old is due to be sentenced next month.
