Oct 22 (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said

Oct 22 (Reuters) – US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that Iran was doing all it could to drive up the price of oil before the US midterm elections.

“They are even making up fake hits, mines, and everything else,” he said in a Truth Social post.

NEW YORK, Oct 22 (Reuters) – The US Commodity Futu

NEW YORK, Oct 22 (Reuters) – The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission is probing suspicious oil trading activity around the US war in Iran and scrutinizing prediction market trading around elections, the agency’s enforcement director said on Thursday at a conference in New York.

CFTC Enforcement Director David Miller made the remarks in response to a Bloomberg News story last week that said a CFTC political appointee had told market surveillance staff to retract a referral to the agency’s enforcement team identifying suspicious trading around President Donald Trump’s March decision to back away from strikes on Iran‘s power plants.

When asked about the story during a panel at the conference, Miller said the agency had “from the beginning” been probing the trading and that the investigation remained open.

The report fueled concerns raised by investor advocates and lawmakers over a decline in enforcement activity at the agency, which is dealing with an exodus of staff as it tries to oversee the growing prediction markets industry. Prediction markets allow people to bet on the outcome of various events, from US elections to sports games.

Federal lawmakers are starting to scrutinize the industry, and most Americans oppose the idea of betting on government actions or elections, according to a mid-October Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll.

Miller also said the CFTC is watching for problematic trading in prediction markets, including on election outcomes. He declined to comment specifically on the November US midterm elections.

CFTC staff “have investigated, and may have open investigations about some candidates who have placed trades on contracts that are based on their own elections,” Miller said.

ATHENS, Oct 22 (Reuters) – The Greek finance minis

ATHENS, Oct 22 (Reuters) – The Greek finance ministry said on Thursday it was implementing sanctions in place linked to Iran and that it backed efforts to effectively combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism.

The statement comes after the US Treasury Department said on Wednesday it imposed sanctions on Karnakis & Karnakis, a law firm based in Greece and Panama, saying it had for years provided legal assistance to Iranian shipping networks.

The Treasury also said that the US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network issued an administrative subpoena to advance an investigation into a Greek bank, which it did not name.

The Greek finance ministry said it had taken note of the US Treasury statement, adding that “all available information is being evaluated, and appropriate measures are being taken in accordance with established procedures and applicable national, EU, and international law.”

Oct 21 - Los Angeles-based artist Yasaman Farmanara held her first solo exhibition at LA’s Studio 37 last week. Hosted by gallerist Sophia Parisa, the exhibition — titled “Under the Armor” and featuring paintings, drawings and bronze sculptures — opened with a collector preview on Oct. 15 and closed on Oct. 18.

Farmanara’s art represents visions of tangled figures, fragmented bodies and expressive hands.

In an interview with Kayhan Life, Parisa said she was drawn to Farmanara’s work for its emotional honesty.

“I was attracted to Farmanara’s artwork because of the relationship between vulnerability and strength, and the feelings we carry beneath our outward composure,” she said.

Parisa’s own path to the art world was circuitous. Born in New Jersey and raised in Iran, she studied industrial engineering before her passion for art and culture led her to found Studio 37, a contemporary art gallery and cultural center in Los Angeles that hosts exhibitions and conversations.

Kayhan Life asked Farmanara what she hoped visitors would take away from “Under the Armor” and where she saw her artistic career heading over the next few years.

“With ‘Under the Armor,’ I hope to encourage a greater curiosity and kindness toward our own emotional lives—to acknowledge what we feel with acceptance rather than judgment, and allow room for what we may not yet understand,” she said.

“In the coming years, I want to deepen that exploration through my art,” she said, “finding new ways to express myself as my understanding of who I am continues to evolve.”

Born in Iran, Farmanara spent many years working in the fashion industry before turning to fine art.

Her work has been featured in several group exhibitions in Los Angeles — including Tag Gallery, Covet Art Gallery, Gallerium Art, Biafarin and Art Share Los Angeles.

Earlier on, her work appeared at Aristocratix in 2024, and at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery and Miracle Mile Medical Group in 2023.

Oct. 21 - The prominent Iranian artist Afshin Naghouni was celebrated in an exceptional evening of music and art at London’s King’s Place performance hall on Oct. 11.

The evening began with the world premiere of a program of contemporary classical music by the Iranian-born composer and instrument designer Amir Konjani — all of them inspired by Naghouni’s new series of abstract paintings. Hundreds of audience members enjoyed pieces of experimental music by Konjani, who has also written the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning short film “The Silent Child,” as well as music for the London Symphony Orchestra.

Eight double bass players from the London Sinfonietta were joined onstage by the prominent harpist Gabriella Dall’Olio and pianist Aleksander Szram. They played the harp and the piano, respectively, but also instruments designed by Konjani: a Kraken Soveida harp, with steel tubes branching out of it, and a Kraken harpsichord.

The performance was conducted by Nazanin Aghakhani, a Vienna-born pianist and composer of Iranian descent who in 2010 became the first woman to conduct the Tehran Symphony Orchestra in Iran.

After the hourlong concert, audience members were invited into the performance hall nextdoor, which had been transformed into an art gallery. There, they experienced a striking display of Naghouni’s abstract paintings inspired by Old Masters: Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Poussin …

The abstract paintings — large canvases covered with swirls of vivid color — were dramatically lit against a curtained backdrop. Viewers could make out the traces and contours of the Old Master works that served as each painting’s inspiration.

“Amir Konjani and I had been working with this material for a few years, and the music was familiar to me,” said Naghouni in an interview after the event. “But to see the evening take place in the best possible conditions, both in terms of the music on stage and the paintings in the gallery, was a ‘wow’ experience.”

DUBAI, Oct 22 (Reuters) – Iran‘s Islamic Revolutio

DUBAI, Oct 22 (Reuters) – Iran‘s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy said on Thursday that four vessels involved in illegal oil transfers in the northern Persian Gulf were simultaneously hit and caught fire after being tracked by its forces on Wednesday.

The IRGC added that three more vessels collided with mines west of the Strait of Hormuz, and warned the US military that continued provocations could lead to a wider response against its regional bases.
