Demonstrations were held on January 1 and 3 at various sites in Cologne, Germany in support of the anti-government protests which started on December 28 in Mashhad, capital of the northeastern Khorasan Province, and quickly spread to other Iranian cities.
On January 6, a demonstration organized by the Iranian National Democratic Front was held near Cologne Cathedral and the History Museum. Iranian Kurdish groups also marched in and around the Rudolfplatz Square to show their support for the protesters in Iran.
