A petition has been circulating online since early May encouraging Iranians to support the “Justice Campaign” officially launched on April 24 by Manouchehr Bakhtiari, the father of Pooya Bakhtiari, a 26-year-old man who was shot in the head and killed during violent street protests in Tehran on Nov. 18.

The campaign seeks justice for those who died fighting for freedom and progress in Iran in the past 41 years.
Since his death, Pooya has become a symbol of freedom and resistance for the younger generation of Iranians fighting for their civil and human rights. Pooya’s father, who has been tirelessly seeking justice for his son’s death, has been summoned many times by the security agencies in Iran. Security forces also arrested several of Pooya’s family members after they tried to hold a mourning ceremony marking the 40th day of his passing, as is the tradition in the Shia Muslim faith.
The petition is available online to anyone inside or outside Iran who wants to support the campaign.
“Fellow Iranians, it is only through our national resolve that we can demand justice,” an explanatory note to the petition said. “No matter where we are in the world, we can lend our support to the campaign that seeks justice for our nation.”
“One way to demand justice is by signing this petition,” the note added. “As more people join the movement, the greater will be the international support for the campaign. By signing this petition, we move one step closer to getting justice. Through your support, this petition will gain momentum and strength. Thank you.”

“I want justice for Pooya,” Mr. Bakhtiari told Kayhan Life recently. “People and public figures should help us get justice for Pooya and others.”
