A new wave of anti-regime protests in Iran has captured the world’s attention, following the tragic death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini on Sept. 16, while in police custody.
The protests have spread to almost every city in Iran and encompass a wide range of demands, such as gender equality; freedom from oppression; better working conditions; and the restoration in full of Iranians’ human rights.
Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at Washington-based think tank the Foundation for Defence of Democracies, talks to Kayhan Life in this podcast interview about the patterns emerging from these protests; what the engagement of children and young people in the protests mean; how the Iranian government is likely to respond to protestors in the long-term; and what the international community could be doing to support Iranians in their fight for freedom
