“Blue Girl” Dies
Iran’s ‘Blue Girl’ Sahar Khodayari, who set herself on fire after being summoned to court for entering a football stadium dressed as a man so that she could watch the game, has died from her injuries. Sahar was charged with ‘appearing in public without a hijab.’ Reportedly, she decided to on immolation after over hearing what she faced.
According to Amnesty International, Iran is the only country in the world that arrests and punishes women who try to enter football stadiums. Sahar’s story went viral on social media, and she became known as Blue Girl, because blue is the color of her favorite soccer team, Iran’s Esteghlal Tehran Football Club.
