Tailored Fluidity for Michael Kors’ Latest Winter/Fall Collection

Power and sensuality came together for Michael Kors’ fall 2017 collection shown at New York Fashion Week: The Shows on Wednesday, February 15.

For the New York-based designer, fashion is about expressing the mood of what’s happening in the world, similar to pop culture. So he sought to create a line of clothes that fulfills the need of people wanting to feel strong and powerful, but also flirty.

“We really wanted to think about how do we mix the very sensual soft and liquid side of things with beautiful tailoring. And how do we have the sneaky side of sexiness. So there is not a mini skirt in sight. Long sleeves for the most part, but when you walk things unwrap, fringes fly – it moves. Because I think about customers today they’re on the move and I really wanted express that,” said Kors.

Leather skirts were playful with fringe, and volume was created with fur and cut outs gave way to sex appeal.

The show featured 65 models, which Kors said plays to his mission to dress everyone: “We have women and men from teens to 40s, we have people who are petite, we have people who are curvy, we have people who are tomboys. We have curly hair, straight hair and my whole idea quite honestly, my job is to make everyone look the best they can look.”

Plus size model Ashley Graham and veteran model turned actress, Amber Valletta both appeared in the show.

Models zigzagged through the space as a live orchestra played the soundtrack for the season.

“Hopefully between magnificent clothes and a remarkably beautiful mix of people on the runway and an incredible orchestra playing my favorite music, I think that maybe you can be in the moment.”
