This year’s parliamentary elections in Iran took place at a time when the record-breaking executions in 2023 have continued into 2024. An estimated 800 individuals were executed in Iran in 2023, the highest number since 2015. Over 500 protesters were killed as part of the ongoing suppression of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ movement. Rights watchdog Iran Human Rights revealed that since the beginning of 2024, at least 71 people have been executed in prisons across Iran.
