In a European first, an Iranian envoy, Assadollah Assadi, was sentenced to 20 years in prison by a Belgian court for trying to bomb an anti-Iran-government rally in Paris, France. The suspected bomb plot is believed to be part of a wider strategy by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to suppress dissent.
