Sept 23 (Reuters) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister And Sept 23 (Reuters) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Wednesday he discussed ways of keeping tension in check at a meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi. Sybiha said on X the meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York was a follow-up to a telephone conversation the two held in July. In more ‌than 4-1/2 years of conflict with ​Russia, Ukraine has faced barrages of Iranian-designed ​drones. Kyiv has over that time developed technology to counter drone threats and ‌offered its assistance to Middle Eastern ​countries facing strikes by Tehran. “Diplomacy is about direct conversation, even in challenging circumstances,” Sybiha wrote. “Our conversation focused on mutual steps to prevent further aggravation of tensions between our countries. We agreed to keep existing channels of communication open.” Sybiha said the two ministers exchanged views on the situation in the Middle East and Europe “as well as various tracks of ongoing peace efforts”. “I reiterated Ukraine’s position in support of a sooner restoration of peace and stability in both our regions.” The two men spoke in July after a Ukrainian drone strike on an Iranian ship which killed one sailor and injured another. Iran denounced the attack and threatened retaliation. Sybiha said then that he asked Araqchi to refrain from any escalatory steps and to end any support for Russia’s war against Ukraine. Costa also called for an end to Iran‘s strikes against its neighbours and the full restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. She is taking part in a group show organized by the Advocartsy collaborative visual art platform in Los Angeles titled “A Gaze Through Time: Contepmorary Reflections on Memory and History” (through Sept. 26). Shadi has mined her dual Iranian and Western identity to produce a body of work that is steeped in memories of Iran. The ritual of making art is, for her, an exercise in self-realization. Yousefian was born in Tehran in 1978 and raised there. She moved to the United States in 1994, and after her undergraduate studies at San Francisco State University, completed a Master of Fine Arts degree in Photography there in 2006. In 2017, Advocartsy put on a retrospective of her work as its inaugural show. It consisted of an exhibition of eight mixed-media series created from 2002 onwards, and was the first of seven shows she has exhibited in at @advocartsy The artist’s works are in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (@lacma) and the San Diego Museum of Art. In 2025, she had solo shows in Mexico: at the Queretaro Museum of Art and at Museo Muni San Luis Potosi. Yousefian joined Kayhan Life for a recent conversation. By Kayhan Life Staff Sept. 23 - The Norway-based h By Kayhan Life Staff Sept. 23 - The Norway-based human rights organization Hengaw has published a statistical report documenting widespread repression of students and teachers in the Islamic Republic of Iran in the last year. Titled “Hundreds of Children and Educators Arrested Across Iran in One Year,” the report states that at least 315 students and children under the age of 18, as well as at least 59 teachers and university professors, were arrested by the Islamic Republic’s security agencies in the most recent academic year, which ended Sept. 21. According to data compiled by Hengaw’s Statistics and Documents Center, between late September 2025 and late September 2026, at least 315 children under the age of 18 and students whose identities were fully verified by Hengaw were arrested by the Islamic Republic’s security agencies. Of those, 30 were girls, and 285 were boys. The report states that the highest number of verified arrests of children was recorded in the western province of Hamadan, with 138 cases. This was followed by the western province of Ilam and the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi, where the identities of 24 arrested children were verified in each province. During the same period, at least eight children and students under the age of 18, including two girls, were sentenced by the Islamic Republic’s judiciary to a combined total of 22 years, 4 months and 15 days in prison, as well as six years and six months of suspended imprisonment.
