Hirad Abtahi is an international criminal justice lawyer with 25 years experience who currently serves as chef de cabinet (chief of staff) to the Presidency of the United Nations International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
He previously served in the chambers of the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia during the trial of former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. He also headed the Legal and Enforcement Unit of the Presidency of the ICC.
Dr. Abtahi, who is Iranian-Canadian, is now focusing on cultural rights in his work at the court as well as in his research and writings.
He is the author of a new book on the subject titled: “Adjudicating Attacks Targeting Culture: Revisiting the Approach Under State Responsibility and Individual Criminal Responsibility.”
Dr. Abtahi recently spoke in a webinar hosted by the Persia Educational Foundation:
