April 19 – A joint statement condemning the Islamic Republic’s April 13 drone and missile attack on Israel was submitted by 49 countries to the United Nations this week.
The countries, which included the US, the UK and France, said the attacks could have caused “significant damage and loss of life” and that they put the lives of innocent people at risk.
The attack was part of “a pattern of dangerous and destabilizing actions by Iran and its militant partners that pose a grave threat to international peace and security” the states said.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Islamic Republic’s attack on Israel was a “wake up call” for Washington to support its allies and urged world leaders to deescalate the conflict.
Zelenskyy also said that Tehran’s actions “threaten the entire region and the world, just as Russia’s actions threaten a larger conflict.”
The comments follow allegations that Iran-made Shahed drones have been used by Russia in its illegal invasion of Ukraine.
And a brutal crackdown on women in Iran by the regime’s morality police went viral on social media platforms including Facebook and X.
Several posts on X by human rights campaigners appeared to confirm that Aida Shakarami the sister of 16-year-old Nika Shakarami who was killed by officials for protesting against the compulsory hijab, had been detained for failing to wear her hijab.
Women in Iran are currently legally required to cover their heads with scarves in public and face increasingly draconian punishments if they fail to do so.
