Sep. 20 – Lebanon was hit by two waves of explosions this week, as electronic devices belonging to members of the militant Hezbollah group detonated leaving at least 20 people dead and thousands more injured.

Thousands of Hezbollah pagers and Walkie-Talkies blew up in Lebanon on Tuesday and Wednesday, sparking fears of a wider war in the Middle East.

The group blamed Israel for the attack, and vowed to retaliate. Israel has not commented on the explosions.

Iran said it had granted the early release of Christian Weber, an Austrian citizen initially charged with spying.

The detention took place during the 2022 nationwide uprising, which saw some of the largest anti-government demonstrations in Iran’s modern history.

Austria said its embassy team in Tehran had helped to secure Weber’s release and that it was now working to arrange his exit from Iran so that he could be reunited with his family.

And Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian said he would ensure that women in Iran were not bothered by the country’s morality police following blistering criticisms from countries around the world about the republic’s treatment of women and girls in the country.

Pezeshkian said the police unit was not supposed to confront women, in his first press conference since taking office in July.

Women in Iran have been disproportionately targeted by officials and have been injured and killed for failing to follow the country’s mandatory hijab laws.
