Feb. 22 – South Africa’s government said it may look to Iran to develop its civilian nuclear power capability, as it plans to increase its capacity to tackle electricity outages.

The announcement followed an executive order issued by U.S. President Donald Trump halting aid to South Africa after the order claimed South Africa was restoring its relationship with Iran to develop commercial, military, and nuclear plans.

Iran has also been accused by the US of developing its own nuclear program with the possible aim of acquiring a nuclear weapon, a claim which Iran has denied.

Two British nationals traveling through Iran have been charged with espionage, according to the country’s judicial news agency.

Craig and Lindsay Foreman, who moved from the UK to Spain in 2019, were believed to have been on a motorbike trip around the world and had crossed into Iran from Armenia in December.

Iran’s judiciary said the Britons had “entered Iran under the guise of tourists” and “gathered information in multiple provinces of the country.”

And the murder of a university student in Iran sparked protests at Tehran University, as young people called for better security on campuses across the country.

Nineteen-year-old business student Amir Mohammad Khaleqi was stabbed to death by robbers, who stole his backpack after entering the campus.

Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian asked Science Minister Hossein Simaei Sarraf to look into the protests so that they did not spread beyond the university.
