Federal authorities arrested Shamim Mafi, a 44-yea Federal authorities arrested Shamim Mafi, a 44-year-old Iranian citizen residing in Woodland Hills, California, at LAX on Saturday, April 18, 2026. Mafi, a legal U.S. resident, is accused of violating federal sanctions by acting as a middleman for Iranian weapons sales. The Allegations Prosecutors claim Mafi utilized a business based in Oman to orchestrate massive arms deals between Iran and Sudan. The scale of the alleged operation includes: • Drones & Explosives: Brokering more than $70 million in armed Iranian drones and tens of thousands of bomb fuses. • Ammunition: Facilitating the sale of millions of rounds of ammunition. • Target Market: The weaponry was reportedly sold to the Sudanese military, which has been embroiled in a violent civil war since 2023. Intelligence Links and Lifestyle Beyond the trade of hardware, court filings suggest a deeper level of involvement, alleging that Mafi maintained direct communication with Iranian intelligence officials for approximately 30 months. While allegedly managing these high-stakes international arms deals, Mafi maintained a high-profile lifestyle in Southern California. Investigators noted she frequently showcased her wealth on social media, including posts featuring a luxury vehicle valued in the six figures. Legal Consequences If found guilty of these federal charges, Mafi faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in federal prison.
