Saint Laurent’s bold new creative designer, Anthony Vaccarello, dazzled the crowds of stars and fashionistas that flocked to the French label’s evening show on the opening day of Paris Fashion Week.
The luxury label kick-started Paris’s Autumn/Winter 2017/18 Ready-To-Wear Fashion Week with a show held in a half-built Parisian apartment-block courtyard, surrounded by dust and scaffolding.
In stark contrast to the barren and gritty surroundings, as the show started the first scantily-clad models emerged wearing tight leather mini-dresses, donning a sexy but elegant look.
Vaccarello offered a varied experience for his expectant audience, with outfits made of different-coloured leather, velvet fabrics, vintage-looking over-sized jackets, fur coats, baggy trousers and endless glitter.
The show’s finale played on a simple but impressive-to-behold theme of silver sparkles against a range of black fabrics, resulting in elegant, glimmering outfits. The show was attentively watched by the co-founder and long-term partner of Yves Saint Laurent, Pierre Berge, who held a front-row seat at the catwalk.
Alongside Berge, in the front row, sat models and actresses including Catherine Deneuve, Kate Moss, Eva Herzigova, Charlotte Gainsbourg, and alongside her, the French businessman and husband of Salma Hayek, François-Henri Pinault.
Founded in 1961, Yves Saint Laurent is considered one of the world’s most prominent and iconic fashion houses, known for revolutionising female fashion with items such as its tuxedo jackets for women. – REUTERS
