Feb. 2 – New sanctions targeting Iranian regime officials tied to assassination plots in the UK were launched by Britain and the US this week.
The penalties were implemented in response to evidence connecting members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to the murder attempts of several journalists working at Saudi Arabia-backed Iran International.
The sanctions targeted 7 individuals and one organization linked to criminal gangs in the UK working with the regime.
Israel’s government said it would launch a case against Iran on genocide charges at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), following the regime’s repeated calls for the destruction of Israel.
Legal experts have suggested that the attack by the Iran regime-backed militant group Hamas on Oct. 7 in Israel in which more than 1,000 people were killed is likely to be considered an act of genocide.
The announcement follows a case in the ICJ submitted by South Africa, which accused Israel of genocide for its invasion of Gaza following the attack, in which more than 26,000 Palestinians have been killed.
And a decision by the British Museum to loan one of Iran’s most important artifacts to Israel has sparked an angry response by the Iranian regime which has threatened legal action if the loan goes ahead.
The Cyrus Cylinder, named after the Persian King Cyrus the Great and believed to be the world’s first declaration of human rights, is currently on show at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History in the US.
Minutes of a meeting at the British Museum noted that the cylinder had been approved to go on loan at the National Library of Israel in Jerusalem.
