The Persia Educational Foundation cordially invite The Persia Educational Foundation cordially invites you to an evening at SOAS to celebrate Iranian-descent women in STEM.

On May 7, 2026, we gather to honor the
“Queen of Mathematics,” Professor Maryam Mirzakhani (1977-2017), with the announcement of the latest recipient of the Persia Mirzakhani Scholarship for Iranian Women in STEM. Professor Mirzakhani’s groundbreaking work on the symmetry of curved surfaces transformed modern geometry and distinguished her as the first woman and the first Iranian to be awarded the Fields Medal.

Beyond her mathematical genius, we celebrate her enduring legacy of empowering women of Iranian descent to pursue excellence in STEM research. We also recognize our current Persia Mirzakhani Scholars, whose academic contributions are instrumental in building a more prosperous world.

This initiative is guided by our distinguished
Selection Panel:

• Dr. Namdar Baghaei-Yazdi - UK
• Mr. Kamran Hashemi - UK
• Mrs. Saghar Kasiri - UK
• Mrs. Fahimeh Robiolle - France
• Dr. Cheri Shakiban - USA

We are deeply privileged to be joined on this occasion by Dr. Cheri (Chehrzad) Shakiban, Professor Emeritus. As the first Iranian woman to earn a doctorate in mathematics in the United States and the first to hold a professorship in the field globally, Dr. Shakiban’s pioneering career served as a vital inspiration to Professor Mirzakhani. Her presence and contributions to the selection panel underscore the critical importance of representation and the enduring impact of mentorship within the sciences.
