Kayhan London – A Tehran Revolutionary Court has handed jail sentences to five young women who were arrested by the authorities in August for protesting against the government’s failure to tackle unemployment, inflation and the high cost of living, according to the Defenders of Human Rights Center (DHRC.)
The court has sentenced Mojdeh Rajabi and Niloufar Homafar to six months imprisonment. Saba Kord Afshari, Yasaman Ariani and Azar Heidari were given a one-year jail sentence. The authorities have reportedly transferred the five girls from Gharchak women prison in Varamin to Tehran’s Evin prison.
