Iran Human Rights, a non-profit international organization based in Oslo, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the jailed human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, citing her poor health.
Mrs. Mohammadi has been arrested several times since 1998 for her political activism. She has been serving a 16-year sentence at Tehran’s Evin prison since 2015.
According to Iran Human Rights, Mohammadi has been suffering from painful kidney stones and severe discomfort in her lower abdomen, which would indicate a problem with her gall bladder. The authorities refused to give her proper medical treatment until June 30, when they finally moved her to a hospital.
Mahmoud Amiri-Moghaddam, the co-founder and spokesman for Iran Human Rights, said: “Narges Mohammadi has been jailed for her peaceful human rights activities and opposition to capital punishment. Her imprisonment is unlawful. She must be immediately and unconditionally released. We call on all governments that have friendly ties with Iran to urge the Islamic Republic authorities to release Narges Mohammadi and all other prisoners of conscience.”
