Three Iranian Women Researchers Recognized by Asian Science Association

The Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia (AASSA) has distinguished three Iranian women researchers — Dr. Tahereh Kaghazchi, Dr. Zahra Emamjomeh and Dr. Mahshid Firouzi — in its 2018 report, “Profiles of Women Scientists in Asia: Their Inspirational Stories.”

The report profiles 50 researchers across AASSA membership countries for their exemplary work in their respective scientific fields. The AASSA was established in 2012 to provide advice on a wide range of scientific and technological innovation and their practical application in helping regional socio-economic development.

Dr. Tahereh Kaghazchi is a professor (retired) of separation processes in chemical engineering at Amirkabir University of Technology. She was born in 1947 in Tehran. She has held many academic posts, including associate professor at the Tehran Polytechnic and senior lecturer at the Tehran University School of Engineering. She holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Bradford in the U.K., and an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Tehran University.

Dr. Kaghazchi has been a member of the Academy of Sciences of Iran. She is also on the board of trustees of Amirkabir University, and a senior science advisor at the Ministry of Education. Dr. Kaghazchi has been the recipient of the Distinguished Professor of Amirkabir University and the Distinguished Professor in Chemical Engineering Iran awards.

Dr. Zahra Emamjomeh is a science and technology professor at Tehran University. She was born in 1968 in Tabriz, capital of the northwestern province of West Azerbaijan. She received a BSc in food science and technology from the University of Tabriz before moving to France where she received her MSc and PhD in food science and technology from Blaise Pascal University. Soon after returning to Iran in 1999, Dr. Emamjomeh was hired by Tehran University as an assistant professor where she currently lectures.

Dr. Mahshid Firouzi is a chemical engineering Advance Queensland Research Fellow at the University of Queensland (QU.) Dr. Firouzi received her Bachelor and a Master in chemical engineering from Tehran University School of Science and Technology and her Ph.D. from the QU in 2014. Dr. Firouzi specializes in fluid dynamics and interfacial interactions of gas-liquid-solid. She works with major companies in the oil and gas industries.
