On Sunday, May 10, 2026, millions across the Unite On Sunday, May 10, 2026, millions across the United States will observe Mother’s Day, a tradition now well over a century old, yet more culturally resonant than ever.

In an era marked by rapid technological change, economic uncertainty, and shifting family structures, the role of motherhood has never been more complex, more demanding, or more deserving of recognition. From single mothers navigating dual responsibilities to grandmothers stepping into primary caregiving roles, the modern definition of “mother” has expanded far beyond its traditional boundaries.

This year, as families gather to celebrate, the conversation extends beyond flowers and brunches. It is a moment of national reflection on the sacrifices, resilience, and quiet heroism that mothers bring to the fabric of everyday life.

DUBAI, May 9 (Reuters) – Bahrain’s interior minist DUBAI, May 9 (Reuters) – Bahrain’s interior ministry said on Saturday it had arrested 41 people it said were linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC), the state news agency reported.

The ministry said security authorities uncovered a group linked to Iran‘s IRGC, adding that investigations by the public prosecutor had also involved cases related to sympathy with Iranian attacks.

WASHINGTON/CAIRO, May 9 (Reuters) – The U.S. and Iran appeared no closer on Saturday to finding an end to their war after the two sides traded fire in the [Persian] Gulf amid a tenuous ceasefire, while a U.S. intelligence analysis concluded Tehran could withstand a naval blockade for months.

Recent days have seen the biggest flare-ups in fighting in and around the Strait of Hormuz since a ceasefire began a month ago, and the United Arab Emirates came under renewed attack on Friday.

Washington has been awaiting Tehran’s response to a U.S. proposal that would formally end the war before talks on more contentious issues, including Iran‘s nuclear program. Speaking in Rome on Friday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. was expecting a response that day, although an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson said Tehran was still weighing its response.

Sporadic clashes continued on Friday between Iranian forces and U.S. vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran‘s semi-official Fars news agency reported. The Tasnim news agency later cited an Iranian military source saying the situation had calmed but warning more clashes were possible.

The U.S. military said it struck two Iran-linked vessels attempting to enter an Iranian port, with a U.S. fighter jet hitting their smokestacks and forcing them to turn back.

Tehran has largely blocked non-Iranian shipping through the strait since the war began with U.S.-Israeli airstrikes across Iran on February 28. Before the war, one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passed through the narrow waterway.
May 8 (Reuters) – Washington has revised its propo May 8 (Reuters) – Washington has revised its proposed U.N. resolution demanding Iran halt attacks and mining in the Strait of Hormuz but the changes are unlikely to avert Chinese and Russian vetoes, diplomats said on Friday.

A Chinese veto would be awkward ahead of U.S. President Donald Trump’s trip to China next week, where the Iran war is likely to be high on the agenda.

An updated draft shared with Security Council members on Thursday afternoon and seen by Reuters removed a clause invoking Chapter VII of the U.N. Charter, which allows the council to impose measures ranging from sanctions to military action.

However, tough language against Iran remained, as well as a clause that in the event of non-compliance the council would “meet again to consider effective measures … including sanctions measures, in order to ensure the freedom of navigation in the area.”

It was unclear when the council might vote on the resolution.

While the text does not explicitly authorize force, it does not rule it out, and “reaffirms the right of member States … to defend their vessels from attacks and threats, including those that undermine navigational rights and freedoms.”

WASHINGTON, May 8 (Reuters) – The U.S. Treasury on Friday announced sanctions against 10 individuals and companies, including several in China and Hong Kong, over accusations they aided Iran‘s efforts to secure weapons and the raw materials needed to build its Shahed drones and ballistic missiles.

The Treasury move, first reported by Reuters, comes days before U.S. President Donald Trump plans to travel to China for a meeting with President Xi Jinping and as efforts to end the war with Iran have stalled.

In a statement, Treasury said it remained ready to take economic action against Iran‘s military industrial base to prevent Tehran from reconstituting its production capacity.

Treasury said it was also prepared to act against any foreign company supporting illicit Iranian commerce, including airlines, and could impose secondary sanctions on foreign financial institutions that aid Iran‘s efforts, including those connected to China’s independent “teapot” oil refineries.

Brett Erickson, managing principal at Obsidian Risk Advisors, said Treasury’s actions were aimed at cracking down on Iran‘s ability to threaten ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz and regional allies.
MAY 8, 2026 - Global Day of Action on May 10 Calls MAY 8, 2026 - Global Day of Action on May 10 Calls for an End to Executions, the Release of Political Prisoners, and an End to Iran’s Internet Blackout

On May 10, 2026, Iranian communities and supporters of the Iranian people will mobilize across major cities worldwide in a coordinated global day of action, as executions surge and one of the longest internet blackouts in modern history continues inside Iran.

Demonstrations will take place across the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Asia, and other international capitals, calling for an immediate end to executions, the release of political prisoners, and the restoration of internet access across Iran.

For more than two months, the Islamic Republic has imposed a sweeping digital blackout, isolating tens of millions while intensifying arrests, disappearances, and executions behind closed doors. Organizers warn that this combination of repression and silence has created conditions in which mass abuses can escalate without visibility or accountability.

The May 10 mobilization comes amid growing concern that the situation in Iran is being normalized despite the scale and pace of state violence. Demonstrators are calling on governments, policymakers, media institutions, and international human rights bodies to respond with urgency and sustained pressure.

Prince Reza Pahlavi, the leader of the Iranian Democratic Opposition, has called on Governments to stand with the Iranian people and their struggle for freedom. To finish the job and not throw the Regime a lifeline.
